The New Flat

Now that we have an internet connection I can show you what the place looks like after we unpacked. The flat is 200 Sq meters (2172 Sq Feet), located on the 4th & 5th floors (that is EU 4th/5th, so our 5th/6th) with no lift. The flats seem to have about 12 foot ceilings so this is quite a hike from the front door to the door of our flat...there are 8 sets of stairs with landings between them. The first set is only 7 steps so you think it will not be so bad, but then it progresses to 9 steps, and then 11-12 for all the rest so it gets tiring very quickly. We also have a storage space in the basement that holds our 2 bikes...and our 12 foot ladder that was accidentally shipped here. We are located about a block away from one end of the large Letna park, 2 blocks from the Castle Gardens, 1/2 a block from the Hradčanská metro stop, and right next to Restaurace U Písecké brány - a very nice pub. Here is a map link to the location. We are on the corner of K Brusce and Na Valech. Our new mailing address is K Brusce 280/7 #11 Hradcany Praha 6 160 00 Czech Republic.
The flat has many modern conveniences: central vac, power skylights on the second floor, dishwasher, disposal, alarm system, washer, dryer and powered aluminum shades on all the downstairs windows. There is also a fireplace in the living room and lots and lots of built in cabinets. All the floors are either wood (living spaces), marble (entry hall) or tile (bathrooms)...with the added bonus of the upstairs bath floors being heated. There is a nice, well-kept central courtyard area as the view from the back of our building but we have yet to get a key to use it. However, one is promised to be coming our way any day now. Across the street from us are a couple of small parks so we have easy access to green space and Alex loves to go to the one directly in front of our building to kick her soccer ball around. In between these two parks, there is a parking lot which ends with the oldest gate in the city...Písecká Gate.
The front hall has a tile floor and doors to a storage closet, a 3/4 bath, the kitchen, the study, the living room, the playroom and the stairs going up. Upstairs there is the master bedroom, Logan's room, Alex's room, a guest room with shower, a bathroom with tub and a half bath. Overall, the flat seems to have worked out well for the over abundance of stuff we brought over.
The location however has its ups and downs. It is wonderful in respect to being central to some of the nicer places Prague has to offer, however it is inconvenient for quickly running out and grabbing groceries or such. The nearest large supermarket is at least a metro stop away, and there are several small marts nearby that we have found - but they are not open past 8pm. In fairness, I go right by a supermarket on my commute home so we have a way to work around this little issue. We have yet to find a good bakery or butchery nearby either but we have not had much time to explore the area so we have not given up hope!

Ben so glad you're publishing again. The apartment looks beautiful. We'll have to get our kids together next month when Kelly and I move over there. - Alain
